What we do:

We have designed and implemented a new approach to managing container costs.

Entitled the $500 Challenge the programme aims to engage operations staff in identifying and implementing cost reductions through making them personal and relevant to them.

Often in the area of container positioning savings can be achieved by eliminating container moves in opposite directions within the same container type, by targeting idle equipment and by improved planning of reefer operations .

The $500 Challenge uses techniques that ensure that cost saving plans are identified, recorded and measured in order to ensure delivery. The process incorporates the principle of After Action Review (used extensively by the US military) in order to ensure a successful bedding down of the culture of cost questioning and cost challenging.
